Welina mai me ke aloha!
This place that connects all of ʻEwa is Puʻuloa, also known as Awāwa Lei or Ke Awalau o Puʻuloa. Today it is called Pearl Harbor. Puʻuloa was abundant with this thing called Bipi, ka iʻa hāmau leo, ka iʻa kuhi lima, ka pūpū, or pearl oysters. These were cherished not just for their momi (pearls) but mainly for their delicious ʻiʻo (meat). In mele, the pūpū also refer to the people of ʻEwa. Therefore, this website is called "He Awa no nā Pūpū o ʻEwa." A harbor for the pearl oysters of ʻEwa. (A harbor of resources for the people of ʻEwa.) |
